Jaguar C-X75 – A new concept
Jaguar C-X75: Just when you thought that electric cars were as thrilling as a visit by the inlaws, comes the news that your inlaws are the Beckhams and that Jaguar has unveiled its Jaguar C-X75 four wheel drive electric supercar.
Unveiled at the Paris Auto Salon the Jaguar C-X75 (only a concept car at present) is a clear indication of the evolution of the electric car. With its sleek and imposing four door jetstream silver design and low profile rims, this is one concept we can only hope becomes a reality.
Each wheel is powered by a 145kW (195bhp) electric motor producing a total 780bhp and total torque output of 1600Nm (1180lb ft) and with two micro gas-turbines generating enough electricity to extend the range to a reported 900 kilometres (560 miles) this is truly one amazing electric car. With a standing 0 to 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds and blistering acceleration from 80-145km/h (50-90mph) in just 2.3 seconds this supercar is capable of reaching a blistering 330km/h.
For the greens amongst us, as if the electric nature of the car wasn’t enough, how about the fact that it will produce just 28 grams of CO2 per kilometre from the car’s plug-in charge capability and a zero tailpipe emissions range of 110km (68 miles) while running solely on battery power
Released to celebrate 75 years of Jaguar it is said that this concept car provides a glimpse into the future of Jaguar and its commitment to producing beautiful, fast cars powered by sustainable means.
Mike O’Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar cars, at is unveiling reflected that “the C-X75 is a tribute to the people who shaped the iconic Jaguars that are revered to this day. By making it an innovative test-bed for the technologies of tomorrow, it also ensures that our reputation for engineering excellence will continue for another 75 years and beyond.”
And from the man, who should know, Ian Callum, Design Director of Jaguar Cars, “The C-X75 is everything a Jaguar should be. It possesses remarkable poise and grace yet at the same time has the excitement and potency of a true supercar. You could argue this is as close to a pure art form as a concept car can get and we believe it is a worthy homage to 75 years of iconic Jaguar design.”
But for me, a motoring enthusiast, I am reassured that the future for electric cars is not filled by Toyota Prius but instead with passionate designers and companies willing to pay homage to the super cars of the past while adapting and improving them for generations of the future.
