New 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat – We want one read to see why.
Synonymous with American Muscle Cars is the Dodge Charger and the new 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat continues this tradition. With 707 horsepower and able to do the quarter mile on street tyres in 11 seconds and a top speed of 328 kilometres per hour the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is marketed as the quickest, fastest and most powerful four door sedan ever.
Under the bonnet is a new supercharged 6.2 litre V8 HEMI Hellcat engine which is mated with a new three mode TorqueFlite 8HP90 eight speed automatic transmission.
A feature of the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is the ability of the driver to personalise their driving experience via the all new Drive Modes feature. The Drive Modes enables the driver to control horsepower, transmission shift speeds, paddle shifters, traction and suspension either via one of the preconfigured (sport, track or default) settings or for total control via the custom setting.
Each of the Drive Mode settings offers a different driving experience depending on road type and condition and is best explained as follows:
- Custom — Allows the driver to personalize the vehicle’s performance
- Sport — Delivers increased vehicle performance capability over the Default Mode
- Track — Delivers maximum vehicle performance capability on smooth, dry surfaces
- Default — Activates automatically when starting the vehicle
- Eco — Maximizes fuel economy with a revised shift schedule, pedal map and second-gear starts
But if you are worried about releasing all this power to a mate who wants a test drive, then the 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has the answer through two key fobs one red and the other black.
Using the red key fob the driver has total control while with the black key fob the engine output of the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is limited as well as the transmission locking out access to first gear and upshifts earlier than normal and drive mode functions disabled.
With all this power, did we mention 707 horsepower and a quarter mile time of 11 seconds, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat needs some serious stopping power. Therefore included as standard, are the largest front brake package offered in a Chrysler group vehicle, namely 390mm Brembo two piece rotors with six piston calipers which will ensure outstanding heat management and thermal capacity as well as longevity.
The rubber hitting the road will be Pirelli P Zero performance tyres while the wheels will be “Slingshot” split seven spoke 20 x 9.5 inche wheels in either standard matte black or as an option Brass Monkey/dark bronze finish.
Looking at the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and you can see the influence and homage to Chargers of yesteryear in particular the iconic second generation Charger from the late 1960s.
Up front, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has a larger, power bulge aluminium hood with a dedicated cold air intake and dual air extractors which ensure effective removal of heat and reduce air turbulence in the engine compartment.
The front fascia and grille have also been redesigned to ensure that muscle car appearance but with a modern take and an integrated front splitter will optimise airflow while maintaining vehicle balance.
At the back is a single piece decked spoiler and a unique fascia and valence which highlight the 4 inch round exhaust tips. With “racetrack” LED tail lights and a centre high mounted stop light situated behind the rear glass the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is all muscle car.
Interior wise the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has also been redesigned to ensure maximum driver focus and comfort. With a new 7 inch customisable digital instrument gauge cluster and new instrument panel centre stack incorporating the latest in touchscreen technology and as standard a premium 900 watt, 18 speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.
Even the steering wheel has been redesign to include heating, a flat bottom and thick rim ideal for those of us who consider ourselves performance drivers. At the back of the steering wheel are standard paddle shifters while along the bottom edge of the horizontal spokes are the buttons required to control this beast.
Seats are also redesigned with improved cushioning and contouring and are heated and ventilated.
At CarHq we see the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat as the ultimate in muscle cars and with the mantle of being the quickest, fastest and most powerful sedan in the world who would be prepared to argue?
