If you were at the Australian F1 Grand Prix then you were fortunate enough to see the Australian public debut of the Ferrari 458 Spider.

Celebrating 60th Anniversary of Ferrari’s arrival in Australia, the Ferrari 458 Spider lead a parade of 64 Ferraris in a salute to this iconic brand.

The Ferrari 458 follows in the footsteps of its award winning hardtop counterpart and as such promises no compromise in in terms of performance, handling or roadholding.

The open top design is not conventional, with extremely light aluminium construction (some 25kg lighter than a similar fabric soft top) the folding roof is compact and light which should minimise the impact in the luggage storage area.

For those who love to hear the roar of a Ferrari engine, they will not be disappointed with the Ferrari 458 as it incorporates an openable rear window which does not require the lowering of the roof.

The Ferrari 458 Spider is powered by a naturally-aspirated, direct-injection 4.5 litre V8 (nominated as the 2011 International Engine of the Year for its engineering excellence in terms of driveability, performance, economy and refinement) and this power is transferred to the black stuff by a dual-clutch F1 paddle-shift transmission and supported by the E-Diff which is integrated with the F1-Trac traction control and high-performance ABS for maximum handling dynamics.

With a recommended retail price in Australia of $590,000 (excluding statutory charges, dealer costs and delivery fees) only a select few will be lucky enough to own let alone test drive the Ferrari 458 Spider when it hits our shores later in the year.
