Range Rover Sport SVR and the Nurburgring
The Range Rover Sport SVR at a time of 8 minutes and 14 seconds has become the fastest production SUV around the famous Nurburgring. This impressive time was accomplished by a Land Rover driver driving a standard production example of the Range Rover Sport SVR.
In June, the Range Rover Sport SVR debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and its time around the Nurburgring was achieved as part of its ongoing testing. The Range Rover Sport SVR is powered by an updated version of Land Rover’s 5 litre supercharged V8 engine which delivers 404kw of power or 29kw more than the existing engine.
To put the time into perspective the current fastest time around the Nurburgring is 6 minutes 48 seconds set in 2009 in a Radical SR8LM while the Nissan GT-R Nismo clocked the ring in 7 minutes and 8 seconds and the Lexus LF-A did it in 7 minutes 38 seconds.
When asked why the Nurburgring to test the Range Rover Sport SVR Mike Cross, Chief Engineer Vehicle Integrity, replied:”The Nürburgring is a benchmark for vehicle development and testing, and cars become stronger, more durable and faster over its 13 miles and 70-plus corners. We wanted to see whether an SUV could behave like a performance car in this challenging environment. The results are spectacular and the Range Rover Sport SVR has demonstrated outstanding on-road performance capabilities.”
The Range Rover Sport SVR will be available in Land Rover showrooms in 2015.
