Volkswagen Amarok – I AMarok now with 8 Speed Automatic

The Volkswagen Amarok already has a proven pedigree in Australia having survived the rigours and challenges that only the Australian Outback can offer. We have seen the Volkswagen Amarok ute tow a 32 tonne road train and traverse unweilding terrain with ease. The Volkswagen Amarok, which was released to the Australian market in 2011, has also been recognised as top of its class taking out the 4×4 Australia Magazine’s “Ute of the Year in 2011”.

And now its range has been extended to include an 8 speed automatic which is the only one of its kind in a ute, in Australia.  The obvious question to be asked is “Why 8?” well the reasons are quite simple. The 8 speed automatic offers:

1. Improved running costs

2. Improved off road ability

3. Reduced weight

While ensuring that towing and off road capabilities of the Volkswagen Amarok are maintained or enhanced through the wide ratio of gears available meaning that the Volkswagen Amarok will retain its mantle as a “Go Anywhere Ute.”

The Volkswagen Amarok is built on a robust ladder frame chassis and comes with a variety of engines including the efficient TSI300 engine or one of three diesel engines – a TDI340 turbo, TDI400 Bi-turbo or the TDI420 Bi-turbo. When coupled with either a 6 speed manual transmission (on the TDI300, TDI340 and TDI400) or the 8 speed automatic (on the TDI420) the Volkswagen Amarok offers high levels of torque as well as significant fuel and Co2 efficiencies.

The Volkswagen Amarok’s off road capabilities are ensured through Volkswagen’s 4Motion all wheel drive system which allows you the driver to optimise the handling and grip characteristics for off road situations by the simple press of the off road button.

Internally the Volkswagen Amarok comes in a single or dual cab option which seats two or unto five respectively. Being in the family way we prefer the Dual Cab ute as it allows us the best of both worlds. Once inside the Volkswagen Amarok you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in a sedan and not a ute as the internal finish includes all options that you would expect to see including climate control, upholders, audio, fully featured steering wheel and most importantly comfortable seats.

The Volkswagen Amarok, while being a ute, does not compromise on safety offering 5-Star ANCAP rating, ABS, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), Anti Slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Assist and of course a wide range of driver and passenger airbags.

The German design of the Volkswagen Amarok is clear in its styling and finish and the Volkswagen pedigree is clear with sweeping lines, extensive colour coding and that look which is synonymous with Volkswagen.

While 16 inch wheels and cloth time are standard, for us the Amarok Ultimate, is our choice with 19 inch alloy wheels and leather trimmed seats and the addition of a sport bar and side steps it makes the Volkswagen Amarok stand further out from the crowd.

The introduction of the 8 speed automatic too the Volkswagen Amarok range is sure to cause a stir amongst the competition and for us offers another reason why any prospective purchaser should seriously consider the Volkswagen Amarok.
