Hyundai Veloster is coming in 2012

Hyundai Veloster Australian Release: It’s official, Hyundai has announced that the Hyundai Veloster will be in Australian showrooms in the new year. 

A compact three door coupe, powered by a 1.6 litre petrol direct injection, four cylinder engine and with a six speed manual or dual clutch transmission the Veloster was recently named “Urban Car of the Year” by a panel of independent automotive journalists for US based Decisive magazine. With a reported fuel economy of 5.9 litres/100km this thrifty engine delivers a peak output of 103kw at 6,300 RPM and a maximum torque of 167 Nm at 4,850 RPM. The engine which features Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing, an electronic throttle control and a roller timing chain promises to deliver low emissions and high reliability.

Veloster

A unique feature of the Veloster is its forward hinged rear third passenger side door providing ease of access for rear seat passengers. 

With a sporty stance, the Veloster has definitively flared mud guards, bonnet scoop detailing, wraparound  headlights and taillights and a distinctive glass hatch with dual centre chrome exhaust surrounded by a black lower fascia.

Inside the Veloster has a design clearly influenced by a motorbike with a centre stack and controls resembling a bike fuel tank, air vents inspired by motorcycle tailpipes and a floor console mirroring the seat of a bike.

The Veloster rides on a 2,650 mm wheelbase, with an overall length of 4,220 mm and width of 1,790 mm.

From a safety perspective the Veloster includes a Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system and full complement of airbags.

Competing in the hotly contested small car market only time will tell whether the Veloster will be a proven success.
