The Range Rover Evoque is marketed as the smallest, lightest, most fuel efficient Range Rover ever produced and this week it has been officially launched in Australia. Making its Australian debut at the Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne earlier this year, first impressions were that the Evoque embraces the true essence of what a Range Rover is while also evoquing its own individual style.

With the Range Rover pedigree, the Range Rover Evoque offers dynamic and agile handling across all terrains which is aided by Adaptive Dynamics together with class leading all weather, all surface capability incorporating the proven Land Rover Terrain Response system. Ground clearance is also maximised as is the breakover angle, approach angle and departure angle which are vastly superior than other premium compact SUVs.

Storage in the Range Rover Evoque is maximised through under floor storage areas, stowage rails, 60/40 folding rear seats in the five door version and ample other storage pockets and holders.

A feature that any astute purchaser should consider is the full sized fixed glass panoramic roof which is available in both the coupe and five door versions and which truly brings the outdoors inside.

Signature features of the Range Rover Evoque include xenon headlamps and LED rear lights which highlight signature graphics while at night puddle lights from the mirrors will highlight the Range Rover graphic on the front doors.

The bling is further enhanced with interior displays which come to life with a choreographed animated start-up sequence, while the rotary auto shifter completes the ‘greeting’ as it rises silently into the driver’s hand. LED ambient lighting provides sophisticated and precise illumination in the cabin; while selecting the Dynamic mode, and a sporting red colour scheme fills the interior as well as the instrument dials and cluster display.

For those of us who embrace technology the Evoque offers connectivity through Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone use and audio streaming, plus a range of USB and auxiliary inputs for iPods and other portable devices.

The Range Rover Evoque is sure to find its niche with those of use who love the traditional “Toorak Tractor” but seek a smaller more agile version and CarHq is looking forward to its first test drive in the near future.
